Re No 1, I think every novel event or situation as it arises must first get past at some subconscious level that deeply rooted human instinct to choose immediately between flight or fight.
I love Bertrand Russel so much. His books had a huge influence on my life and my personal development. Even if that resulted in serious problems.
At the time I lived in a village in Bavaria. The people there are mostly very conservative and extremely devout Christians. There is a free church evangelical community in this village. The members don't believe, they are absolutely sure, that every single word in the Old and New Testaments comes directly from God and is therefore the absolute truth. And of course they are convinced, that the devil and hell are real and that everyone, who doesn’t follow the rules of the community.
The community is more like a cult with extremely strict rules. They belong to a church in Pennsylvania called Christian Endeavor (CE). There are approximately 10,000 churches in over 40 countries worldwide that belong to Christian Endeavor. There are a particularly large number of congregations in Germany that belong to Christian Endeavor's global network. In Germany they are known by the abbreviation EC.
